Attractions

Vincennes began as a French fur trading outpost and many of its historic buildings were influenced by French architecture. Additonally, buildings and homes in the heart of the city pre-date 1900, making this an attractive area for history buffs and amateur photographers alike. As the state's oldest city, the state's first capital and the one of the first gateways to the west, Vincennes is a city teeming with a rich history and many opportunities to soak in a rich heritage.

The city is also home to the beautiful George Rogers Clark Memorial. Built during the Great Depression, the memorial pays tribute to George Rogers Clark, the frontier's Revolutionary War hero.

Visitors can also tour Grouseland, the home of William Henry Harrison, our nation's ninth president. Built in 1803, this stately brick home is where Harrison lived while he was governor of the Indiana Territory and is deemed a National Historic Landmark today.
