Community Needs Assessment Survey

It’s clear that Good Samaritan Hospital is making an impact in the community through its free health screenings and Primary Care Clinic. In 2010, Good Samaritan Hospital provided over 16,000 free health screenings in the community. From a recent community needs assessment the hospital has learned nearly two-thirds of adults in Knox County are aware of the free health screenings offered by Good Samaritan and nearly one-half of the population is familiar with its Primary Care Clinic.

Good Samaritan Hospital contracted with the Indiana University School of Medicine, Department of Family Medicine’s Bowen Research Center to conduct the community needs assessment. The aim of the project was to identify four main goals: The health status of Knox County; any barriers to health care; the knowledge of free health screenings and the knowledge of the Primary Care Clinic. Results from the assessment were compared to Indiana and U.S. data collected from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System.

The assessment indicates that the hospital’s free health screenings and access to the Primary Care Clinic are making a positive impact on the health of the community. The assessment shows that 40% of Knox County adults participate in free screenings offered by Good Samaritan Hospital.
