Our award-winning Joint Replacement Center was one of the first of its kind in the region. A cooperative program with Good Samaritan Hospital and its orthopedic unit, Quest Orthopedics and Vincennes Orthopedic, its goal is to get patients back to their normal lives as quickly as possible.
The patient-focused program offers centralized scheduling, a joint replacement unit, a dedicated staff and a unique group approach to physical therapy. Our emphasis on patient camaraderie and the cooperative efforts of our staff makes the program highly successful and sets us apart from other hospitals.
Up to eight patients are admitted each Sunday night. Together they attend a pre-surgery class to review the upcoming procedure and what they can expect. Surgeries are performed Monday. Patients are then quickly re-united as a team. Tuesday and Wednesday mornings are group physical therapy sessions, followed by a group occupational therapy session in the afternoon to ensure mastery of basic life skills such as bathing and dressing. Thursday is the day most patients go home, so therapy focuses on climbing stairs and getting in and out of cars.
Throughout their stay, each group of patients share meals and workouts while challenging, encouraging, and supporting one another. This contributes greatly to the healing process.
