PET Scan

PET (Positron Emission Tomography) images can provide important information about many conditions affecting the heart, brain, and other organs. PET is a nuclear medical imaging technique that produces three-dimensional images of functional processes in the body, and is often able to identify a disease before it shows up on other tests. PET scans are used heavily in clinical oncology (medical imaging of tumors and the search for metastases), and in the clinical diagnosis of certain brain diseases that produce dementia.
