Learn More About Good Samaritan

As the largest employer in Knox County, Good Samaritan is deeply rooted in the community and committed to improving the health and well-being of the region it serves. With 158 in-house beds and a care footprint that extends beyond county borders, the hospital provides more than 500,000 outpatient visits and over 30,000 emergency-room encounters each year. From birth to advanced care, Good Samaritan offers a full spectrum of services — from maternity and family health to radiation oncology and level 3 trauma treatment — ensuring that patients have access to exceptional care close to home.

As a teaching hospital in partnership with the Indiana University School of Medicine, Good Samaritan supports residency programs in Internal Medicine and Psychiatry, helping train the next generation of health care professionals while maintaining high standards of clinical excellence. Nearly 1,800 caregivers call this region home, proudly carrying out the hospital’s mission to provide high-quality, compassionate care to every patient. Serving a 10-county region with more than 226,000 residents across Indiana and Illinois, Good Samaritan is both a trusted health care provider and an economic anchor for the area.

The hospital’s impact extends well beyond clinical care. Good Samaritan contributes significantly to the local economy, with an annual payroll exceeding $115 million, millions spent locally on goods and services, and nearly $1 million provided in charity care to those in need. Each year, caregivers perform hundreds of thousands of lab tests, deliver hundreds of babies, and complete thousands of surgeries. The hospital also hosts a variety of free community wellness events—such as the Women’s and Men’s Wellness Fairs—drawing hundreds of participants annually for screenings, education, and preventive care resources.

Good Samaritan not only meets today’s health care needs but also invests in tomorrow’s. Through continued facility growth, preventive education programs, and a strong mission of community service, Good Samaritan plays a vital role in helping Knox County remain a healthy, resilient, and thriving place to live and work.
