Good Samaritan To Host 15th Annual Men's Health Tune-Up

Good Samaritan’s annual Men’s Health Tune-Up is right around the corner. The event will be held Tuesday, October 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Highland Woods Community Center on Hart Street. The tune-up will offer a wide array of vital health screenings specifically aimed toward men. Some of the free screenings that will be offered include: Lipid Profile (Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL and Triglycerides), Blood Sugar, Creatinine/Glomerular Filtration Rate (Kidney Function), PSA (Prostate Cancer Screening), Respiratory Function, Colorectal Take-Home Kits, Blood Pressure and more. 12-hour fasting is recommended for these screenings, but is not required.

“We usually expect around 500-600 men each year,” said Rob McLin, President and CEO at Good Samaritan. “That is a very large number of people in our community who we are able to help and provide free preventative services to. We want to get them on the right track toward being happy and healthy.”

The Men’s Health Tune-Up began 14 years ago after it was demonstrated that there was a critical need to bring education and health screenings to the public. In 2017, 535 men from Knox and the surrounding communities took advantage of the free blood screenings. Of those men an astounding 54% had abnormal triglyceride screenings, 71% had abnormal LDL and 7% had abnormal PSA numbers.

“The Respiratory Care Department is pleased to attend the Men’s Health Tune Up every year to promote lung health”, said Janet Sievers, Director of Respiratory Care. “Screening and early identification of lung disease provides the opportunity to slow the progression of lung disease and provide options for patients. We also promote healthy lifestyle, including tobacco cessation information to assist those who are ready to kick the habit. We are committed to the health of our community and want to do our part.”

Some of the other departments on hand will include: Cardiology, Endoscopy, Pharmacy, Oncology, Trauma, Samaritan Center, Joint Replacement Center, Physician Services and more.

Each attendee will have the opportunity to win a $100 gift card to Niehaus Home Center, donated by Good Samaritan’s Foundation, by simply visiting both the screening and information booths throughout the evening and getting a card signed.

Reservations are not required for this event. The Men’s Health Tune-Up will be held Tuesday, October 2 from 4 to 7 p.m. at Highland Woods Community Center, 1377 S. Hart Street. For more information, call the Good Samaritan Marketing Department at 812-885-3336.
