Good Samaritan, in partnership with the YMCA of Vincennes, is inviting
community members to once again take part in their Community Get Fit Challenge.
Individuals and teams of four can participate in this 12-week program,
from January 4 to March 28. Each participant will receive guidance and
information from dietitians, monthly exercise plans developed by certified
trainers, helpful tips to promote mental health, and access to free recipes,
fitness demonstrations and tips on decreasing stress.
“Our mission as an organization is to promote the health and well-being
of our community,” said Rob McLin, President and CEO at Good Samaritan.
“The Community Health Needs Assessment, completed every three years,
has consistently shown an increase physical inactivity and obesity among
our population. The Get Fit Challenge is a great way to teach others the
benefits of eating better and living a more active lifestyle.”
Each participant must be 18 years or older at the time of entry. Challenge
members can enter as an individual or as a team of four. Participants
will be required to attend and weigh-in during the kick-off event, on
January 4, and the final weigh-in on March 28, both at the YMCA of Vincennes.
The entry fee is $30 per person; however, those who register online by
December 20 will get the early bird rate of $25. Registration and payment
can be done online through Eventbrite. Those interested in registering
for the challenge can do so by visiting communitygetfit.eventbrite.com.
Weight loss will be based on percentage of weight loss, not pounds, so
that everyone can compete fairly.
Individuals who are a part of the challenge will also receive access to
a community Facebook page and the option to purchase a day passes at the
YMCA at a reduced cost.
Prizes for the competition will be:
• First Place Team - $1,000
• First Place Individual Male and Female - $250 Each
• Second Place Team - $400
• Second Place Individual Male and Female - $100 Each
• Third Place Team - $200
• Third Place Individual Male and Female - $50 Each
“Due to the success of last year’s challenge, we felt we needed
to offer this program to our community once again,” stated Tiffany
Conover, Director of Marketing. “There were so many participants
who made positive changes in their lifestyle to be very successful in
the program. We hope to see that kind of motivation again, which is why
we are offering even more prize money incentives for second and third
place winners. If you are ready to lose weight and make a positive lifestyle
change, plus possibly win some extra cash, this challenge is for you!”
Those who are interested in registering for the challenge can do so online
by visiting communitygetfit.eventbrite.com. Day-of-event registration
will be available to participants on January 4 from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Rules
and other information about the challenge are also available on the Good
Samaritan website at gshvin.org/getfit.
