Why to Choose Good Samaritan

Top 10 Reasons

While there are countless reasons to entrust Good Samaritan with your health and wellness, here are the Top 10 Reasons we feel most proud to offer the communities we serve.

Reason #1  – Exceptional People, Putting Patients First

We have more than 1,900 compassionate employees dedicated to providing an outstanding patient experience. At Good Samaritan we live by our core values of PRIDE – Patient, Respect, Integrity, Dignity, Excellence. No matter our job responsibility, from courteous environmental service assistants to highly-skilled surgeons, we are always thinking about the needs of our patients and putting them first. You, our patient, are our top priority. Click here to view our “I Am the Patient Experience” video to get a look at how all of our employees are dedicated to the patient experience.

Reason #2  – Outstanding Care Close to Home

For more than 100 years, Good Samaritan has been a health care leader in southwestern Indiana and southeastern Illinois. As a regional hospital, we cover a 10-county service area, and Vincennes is just a short drive from each county. You’ll find an array of services and staff ready to greet you with medical expertise, cutting-edge technology and big hearts. The quality of our patient care is what sets us apart from any other hospital in the region. Click here to view our latest quality outcomes. Our award winning hospital is accredited by the Joint Commission and is a Magnet facility; both of which are awarded for quality improvement and patient safety.

Reason #3  – State-of-the-Art Facility

We believe in providing our patients with the best care possible, and that means providing a facility that offers the latest technology and medical advancements. Our new Gibault Memorial Tower, which opened July 2015, is a 120-bed, five-story building that houses Cardiology and Clinical Decision, Intensive Care, Pediatrics and Medical Surgery, Joint Replacement and Medical Surgery, Women’s Health and Oncology. Good Samaritan also has a state-of-the-art Same Day Surgery Center, a 25,000-square-foot comprehensive oncology care center, Wound Care Center, Neurology Clinic and expanded Sleep Lab. The Rehabilitation Center was recently remodeled and expanded, and Vincennes Orthopedics will be seeing patients in their new office located in the hospital’s Health Pavilion on September 26.

Reason #4  – More Than 100 Physicians

Good Samaritan is fortunate to provide numerous specialties to our patients. Our staff of more than 100 physicians have studied and practiced all over the world. Together they bring innovative and advanced care to the communities in our 10-county service area. Whether they are performing surgery within the hospital or providing family check-ups in an acute care clinic, our physicians all have the same values – the patient comes first. New and progressive ideas on how to practice medicine are constantly on the forefront of physicians’ minds and our new arrivals also bring innovative ideas to Good Samaritan.

Our Graduate Medical Education program, beginning in 2017, will bring medical students the opportunity to complete their residencies and potentially practice at Good Samaritan. Click here to learn more about the GME program.

We also offer services in Daviess County, (Cullen Medical Professionals), Pike County, (Petersburg Medical Center), and Robinson, (Occupational Health & Acute Care Clinic). Reaching communities in and outside of Knox County allows us to serve more patients and ultimately fulfill our vision to be the regional center of excellence in health and wellness.

Reason #5  – Expert Heart Care

Good Samaritan’s Dayson Heart Center is a comprehensive center focused on the prevention, detection, treatment and rehabilitation of cardiovascular and circulatory diseases. We offer state-of-the-art technology and advanced treatment in a patient-focused environment, close to home. The skilled cardiologists and support staff strive to provide you with the best patient care resulting in better outcomes and the availability of more advanced treatment options. The Dayson Heart Center is a heart hospital within a hospital. All cardiac consultative, preventive, diagnostic and treatment services are conveniently in one location. We have two state-of-the-art catheterization labs, one of which is a hybrid lab/surgical suite, which allows us to perform diagnostic and surgical intervention in one space. We also offer a range of heart-centric clinics and a beautiful rehabilitation facility to help our patients get back on their feet.

Reason #6 – Advanced Technology

Within each department throughout the hospital, you will find the latest technology ranging from the linear accelerator with IMRT in our Cancer Pavilion to a hybrid catheterization lab in our Dayson Heart Center. Good Samaritan introduced a endobronchial ultrasound (EBUS) last year that allows a pulmonologist to obtain tissue or fluid samples to detect lung cancer faster. We also provide the latest biopsy option for patients with elevated and/or rising PSA levels with the UroNav fusion biopsy system. Whichever department you visit at Good Samaritan, you will be cared for by the best employees with the most advanced technology in the region.

Reason #7  – Emergency Excellence

We’re here when you need us 24/7 — delivering state-of-the-art emergency care in our specially equipped 20-bed Emergency Department. Good Samaritan is a verified Level III Trauma Center by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).  This verification means that Good Samaritan is the 4th Indiana Level III Trauma Center in the state and the only verified trauma center in the Wabash Valley. After years of active participation within the Indiana State Trauma Care Committee, Good Samaritan has helped to realize the organization’s goal to expand statewide care for injured patients as the 13th overall verified trauma center in the State of Indiana.

Good Samaritan is able to keep 80 to 90 percent of trauma patients here, close to home. Only those trauma patients requiring a higher level of trauma care, at a Level I or Level II, are transferred to Evansville or Indianapolis.

When minutes matter, our surgeons (general, orthopedic, vascular/thoracic), emergency physicians, nursing, lab and radiology staff are all ready to provide the highest quality of trauma care to Knox and our surrounding communities.

Reason #8  – Beautiful Beginnings in Obstetrics

Our Women’s Health Unit is dedicated to the unique needs of women. From the birth of a child to gynecological needs, we offer care designed with you in mind. Our beautiful, spacious labor and delivery rooms are designed to provide comfort and convenience for laboring moms and their families while waiting for baby to arrive. Our large, private post-partum rooms also offer amenities for new moms and babies, while providing ample space for visiting family.

Should the need arise, new parents can be comforted by the fact that we have a Level II nursery for newborns and those needing special attention. Our five OB/GYNs specialize in childbirth, treating and counseling women throughout their pregnancies, from giving prenatal care diagnoses to deliver and postpartum care. There are also four Family Practice physicians at Good Samaritan who also specialize in obstetrics.

Reason #9  – New Approaches in Orthopedics

When it comes to Orthopedics, you can expect the best at Good Samaritan. Since 1999, the Joint Replacement Center has successfully performed more than 3,500 joint replacements and has helped individuals return to their way of life. Our team offers a multidisciplinary, synchronized approach to patients while reinforcing patient safety and comfort. We have group therapy facilities and an inpatient gym area, private rooms, communal education sessions and lunch opportunities so patients can share common experiences during recovery.

With specialization in joint replacements, arthroscopic procedures and sports medicine, our four expert orthopedic surgeons have more than 56 years of experience. These surgeons perform procedures including mending broken bones, reattaching ligaments and tendons, and replacing hips and joints with prosthetic devices. They also perform many minimally-invasive procedures, prescribe medications and nutritional supplements, recommend therapeutic exercises, and immobilize fractured bones with the use of braces, splints and casts. We also offer anterior hip replacements that allow our patients a less invasive surgery, faster recovery time and reduced risk of dislocation.

Reason #10  – Defying the Odds in Cancer Care

Good Samaritan’s cancer program is among an elite group of programs nationwide accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. We offer comprehensive care and a range of state-of-the-art services, which means patients who are diagnosed with cancer can receive all of their treatment near family and friends from physicians and medical professionals who know and care about them. Our interdisciplinary approach includes experts who have received the most advanced training in cancer care, ranging from screening and diagnosis to treatment and end-of-life comfort when needed. Our cancer care services include diagnostic and interventional radiology, pathology, surgery, medical oncology, radiation oncology, infusion, palliative care and hospice. We also offer 3D mammography and lung cancer screenings so we can find signs of cancer faster, and ultimately save more lives.
