Good Samaritan Partners with VanGo to Provide Extended Hours of Transportation for the Community

Beginning February 4, 2023, the VanGo transportation service will be offering extended hours of service to the local community. During Good Samaritan’s 2022 Community Health Needs Assessment, access to care was identified as an important area for improvement. Lack of transportation was identified as a key barrier to receiving health care. Good Samaritan is partnering with VanGo to expand hours of service to the community. .

VanGo will be adding an additional 30 hours of service each week not only to support Good Samaritan but the entire community. “This partnership is an exciting step forward in addressing one of the social determinants of health in transportation,” stated Adam Thacker, Good Samaritan Chief Operating Officer. “Good Samaritan has an incredibly talented team of caregivers providing exceptional care but in order to do so we have to minimize gaps such as transportation issues. The VanGo team has been great to work with in developing this expansion of services.”

“The collaboration between Good Samaritan and VanGo will enhance the patient experience by offering patients the opportunity to attend appointments, pick up needed medications and provide safe and timely evening and weekend discharges,” stated Brandy Shouse, Good Samaritan Director of Case Management and Social Services. “The extended hours will benefit Good Samaritan patients and will also be a valuable asset to the community.”

The VanGo hours of operation will be 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. The community can schedule a ride by calling dispatch at 812-886-3381 or they can download the app Mobility by Ecolane on their cellphones and schedule rides. The cost per trip inside the Vincennes City limits will be $3.00 one way or $6.00 round trip. Transportation outside of the city limits will be $6.00 one way or $12.00 round trip. Trips outside of Knox County will be $20.00 one way. “We are excited to be working with Good Samaritan and hope together we can accomplish great things,” stated Rebecca Pinnick, VanGo Public Transportation Director. “We listened to the community and agreed there is a need for expansion. As the community grows, we hope to grow with them.”
