CommonSpirit Health at Home to Acquire Good Samaritan Hospice

Good Samaritan has announced that CommonSpirit Health at Home will acquire and assume operations of Good Samaritan Hospice, ensuring continued access to compassionate, end-of-life care for patients and families across Indiana and Illinois.

Following Good Samaritan’s earlier announcement regarding the planned closure of its hospice program at the end of 2025, leadership began exploring options that would allow hospice services to continue for patients and families in the region. Through that process, CommonSpirit Health at Home was identified as the organization best positioned to assume ownership and continue the hospice program without interruption.

CommonSpirit Health at Home is a long-time collaborator with Good Samaritan through Good Samaritan Home Care Services, a joint venture that has provided trusted home health care in Vincennes, Indiana and Lawrenceville, Illinois for more than 35 years. With this acquisition, CommonSpirit Health at Home will bring hospice services under their umbrella, allowing for a seamless transition and continued coordination of care for patients across Indiana and Illinois.

Importantly, current Good Samaritan Hospice caregivers will remain with the hospice under the ownership of CommonSpirit Health at Home, ensuring patients continue to receive care from the same trusted and familiar team.

To maintain consistency and community recognition, CommonSpirit Health at Home will continue to license the Good Samaritan name for hospice services. Good Samaritan Hospice will remain dedicated to delivering compassionate, patient-centered care, as well as volunteer and bereavement programs for families and loved ones.

The transition is expected to take effect February 1, 2026. Until that time, Good Samaritan Hospice will continue operations through the hospital to ensure there is no disruption in care for current patients.

Good Samaritan will continue offering palliative care services, which remain an integral part of the hospital’s Commission on Cancer accreditation and provide

ongoing, comfort-focused support for patients. Additionally, the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation will continue to direct community donations to support hospice needs across the region.
