Good Samaritan Upgrades 3D Mammography Technology to Enhance Patient Experience and Diagnostic Accuracy

The Good Samaritan Breast Care Center announces the upgrade of its 3D mammography units, bringing the newest advancements in breast imaging to the community. While Good Samaritan has offered 3D mammography for more than a decade, these new units provide significant improvements designed to enhance image quality, accuracy, comfort and the overall patient experience.

The upgraded 3D mammography technology produces clearer, high‑resolution images by capturing multiple views of the breast and creating a detailed, layered picture. This improved clarity helps radiologists detect breast cancer earlier and more accurately, supporting timely diagnoses and expanding potential treatment options for patients. Clearer images also reduce the chance that overlapping tissue will appear concerning, which helps limit unnecessary call‑backs for additional imaging and reduces patient anxiety.

“This upgrade reflects our continued commitment to providing the best possible care for our patients,” said Crystal Beadles, Mammography Manager at Good Samaritan. “The newest 3D mammography technology allows us to detect breast cancer more accurately while also improving comfort for our patients. We are grateful to the Good Samaritan Hospital Foundation and the many community members who supported the foundation’s cancer initiative fundraisers, as their generosity directly supports advanced breast care close to home.”

These advancements are especially beneficial for women with dense breast tissue, which is present in nearly half of women over age 40. Dense tissue can make it more difficult to identify cancer on traditional mammograms, but improved 3D imaging helps radiologists see through dense areas more effectively, making screening more reliable for women of all breast types.

The new units also incorporate advanced image processing and computer‑assisted technology that supports faster, more efficient image review. This can lead to quicker turnaround times for results, allowing patients to receive answers sooner and with greater confidence in their screening.

Patient comfort was a key focus of the upgrade as well. The new equipment includes features such as curved compression paddles designed to better align with the natural shape of the breast, helping make exams more comfortable while still maintaining high image quality.
