Good Samaritan To Host 11th Annual Men's Health Tune-Up

The eleventh annual Men’s Health Tune-Up is around the corner. The event will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Highland Woods Community Center on Hart Street. The tune-up will offer a wide array of vital health screenings specifically aimed towards men. Some of the free screenings that will be offered include; Lipid Profile (Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL and Triglycerides), Blood Sugar, Creatinine/Glomerular Filtration Rate (Kidney Function), PSA (Prostate Cancer Screening), Respiratory Function, Colorectal Take-Home Kits, Blood Pressure and more. 12-hour fasting is recommended for these screenings, but is not required.

“This event has grown so much throughout the years. We will have over 25 hospital booths available to provide health screenings and information specifically aimed towards men’s health and some new attractions this year that I believe many will find interesting and helpful,” said Rob McLin, President and CEO. “This is an opportunity for us to provide free, preventative health screenings, ranging from blood work to respiratory function, to those who cannot afford it or do not have a health care provider.” There will be plenty of other activities in addition to the screenings, including exhibits and demonstrations, as well as hot dogs and beverages that will be served.
This is the eleventh annual Men’s Health Tune-Up, and past years have demonstrated the critical need to bring education and health screenings to the public. In 2014, 585 men from Knox and the surrounding communities took advantage of the free blood screenings. Of those men an astounding 86% had abnormal blood pressure, 55% had abnormal triglyceride screenings and 74% had abnormal LDL.

“This is certainly one of the largest community outreach events we have all year,” said Mickey Pagan, Director of Integrated Health Delivery. “This event has been very well attended in the past and we anticipate that this year will be the same. We tell our patients that it is important to ‘know your numbers’ and hope that they will be more informed and aware of their health status.”

Reservations are not required for this event. The Men’s Health Tune-Up will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Highland Woods Community Center, 1377 S. Hart Street. For more information, call the Good Samaritan Marketing Department at 812.885.3336.
