Good Samaritan and YMCA of Vincennes Inviting Community to Get Fit 5K with a Training Challenge

Good Samaritan, in partnership with the YMCA of Vincennes, is inviting community members to take part in their Community Get Fit 5K Training Challenge. Individuals can participate in this 9-week program, from August 13 to October 12. Each participant will receive guidance and information from dietitians, monthly exercise plans developed by certified trainers, access to free recipes, fitness demonstrations, and tips on decreasing stress. Group training will be available every Tuesday and Thursday at Gregg Park throughout the challenge.

“We wrapped up our first Get Fit Challenge this past March and were excited it was so successful. We had great involvement from the community and saw participants take steps toward a healthier lifestyle,” said Rob McLin, President and CEO. “With the help of the YMCA of Vincennes and a few of our own Good Samaritan departments, we wanted to offer a shorter challenge that focused a little more on 5K training to prepare participants for the upcoming races sponsored by the hospital.”

Each participant must be 18 years or older at the time of entry and must enter as an individual. Participants will be required to attend the first weigh-in, on August 13, and the final weigh-in on October 12. The entry fee is $30 per person with a deadline of August 2 to register for the training. Weight loss will be based on percentage of weight loss, not pounds, so that everyone can compete fairly.

Individuals who are a part of the challenge will have the opportunity to add the Samaritan Center 5K Run and Good Samaritan Foundation’s Pumpkin Pride Run (5K only) for a discounted price of $50. A grand prize of $250 each will be awarded to a male and female with the highest percentage of weight loss, along with a second place prize of $150, and third place prize of $50.
