Good Samaritan Collaborative Interprofessional Education Department Receives Award

The Collaborative Interprofessional Education Department (CIE) at Good Samaritan was recently awarded the Partnership Matters Award from the Southwest Indiana Area Health Education Center (AHEC). This award recognized the CIE department for their ongoing commitment to the education of current employees and future health care workforce, and their dedication to creating reciprocal partnerships across the region to improve health care for all.

“We are honored to receive this award,” said Jennifer Shrum, Nursing Professional Development Practitioner at Good Samaritan. “The award validates the hard work we have done to build relationships with area universities and AHEC. Our goal is to provide an inviting presence and great clinical experiences in hopes that these students will want to come back to Good Samaritan to practice in the future.”

The department routinely provides assistance to their students by connecting them with preceptors, ensuring students are oriented for placements, providing housing when needed, and making students feel welcome. In addition to their work on clinical placements, the CIE Department at Good Samaritan has engaged with the regional Clinical Collaboration Team to provide expertise, insight, and experience on a variety of topics to other regional organizations and professional colleagues across southwest Indiana.

“The Collaborative Interprofessional Education team here at Good Samaritan is committed to providing education and improving the health of our communities,” said Rachel Spalding, Chief Nursing Officer. “They all work so hard every day to not only make sure our own employees are equipped with the knowledge and expertise to provide safe patient care, but they also educate other providers and health personnel throughout our surrounding counties.”
