Grand Opening Ceremony for The Margaret Compton Recovery Hub

Grand Opening Ceremony for The Margaret Compton Recovery Hub

Good Samaritan is proud to announce the grand opening and ribbon cutting for The Margaret Compton Recovery Hub. The community is invited to attend on March 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. EST at the hub’s new location at 509 N. 7th Street in Vincennes, Indiana. The Margaret Compton Recovery Hub will be a safe, welcoming space for any individual who is needing help with recovery. The peer recovery specialists at the hub will help connect individuals with community resources. A peer recovery specialist (PRS) is someone with experience in addiction who chose to recover from their substance use disorder (SUD). Their goal is to meet and work with individuals who are suffering from addiction to find their own path to recovery.

This project has been a collaboration between Good Samaritan, Children and Family Services, Corp. and the Knox County Public Library. McKenzie Young, Community-Based Prevention Specialist at Children and Family Services, Corp. said the library has been instrumental in providing the space, and our collaborative efforts will hopefully bring about a welcoming space in the community. “We have a very robust recovery community and hope that this space will build on what already exists, break down stigmas and bring attention to the lives being positively impacted by this type of community space,” stated Young.

“We want it to be a place where individuals feel welcome,” stated Laura Jimenez, Knox and Pike County State Opioid Response Project Manager. “There is a lot of stigma attached to those that suffer from SUD, the MCRH will not be that kind of atmosphere. We want it to be a place where individuals can get the help that they are looking for.”

The facility is named after Margaret Compton who passed away on March 7, 2022. Margaret was a very selfless individual who touched many people within the community. She served on the Board of Directors of the Knox County Drug Court Foundation and oversaw the substance abuse program at the Southern Indiana Regional Youth Village where she mentored case managers and therapists.
