About Willard

Dr. Whitehead, a seventh generation Kentuckian, received his under graduate and graduate degrees from the University of Louisville. While there, Dr. Whitehead was actively involved in his residency program and served as Chief Resident in his last year. He enjoyed that so much he joined the faculty there to explore the opportunity of using psychiatric techniques to improve primary care delivery and surgical outcomes. He was named the first Genesis Fellow in Behavioral Medicine and named medical director of the Genesis Center where these techniques were applied. As acting Residency Training Director, he filled those years with quality residents and future doctors! Dr. Whitehead then moved to Newburgh, Indiana and practiced with Southwestern Behavioral Healthcare serving as medical director as well as treating patients in inpatient and outpatient services, performed forensic evaluations, practiced addiction psychiatry and taught medical students and psychiatric advanced practice nurses from the University of Southern Indiana. Dr. Whitehead and his wife have two grown daughters and two grandchildren. He is delighted to have the opportunity to help build a better-integrated and friendly medical community with the psychiatry residency program at Good Samaritan. “It has been my dream to live in a community where doctors know and work better together.” Dr. Whitehead is excited to be a part of the medical team at Good Samaritan and treasures the ideals of the organization. One of his favorite health tips he shares with others is to get the best exercise you can and have good friends. “Life goes by faster than you can ever imagine,” he said. “It is nice if you can enjoy a few adventures.”
