Patient Family Advisory Council

The Patient & Family Advisory Council (PFAC) at Good Samaritan exists to strengthen the partnership between patients, families, and the health-care team. The Council provides guidance, feedback, and collaboration to ensure care is safe, high-quality, patient-centered, and reflective of the needs, values, and lived experiences of the community.

The mission of Good Samaritan PFAC is to elevate the voices of patients and families, promote meaningful engagement in decision-making, and support Good Samaritan in delivering compassionate, equitable, exceptional care.

The PFAC focuses on:

• Improving patient experience and satisfaction

• Strengthening communication between patients, families, and clinical teams

• Reviewing policies, educational materials, and facility improvements from a patient-centered perspective

• Identifying opportunities to advance safety, accessibility, and quality

• Serving as a consultative body to leadership, committees, and improvement teams

The Council is composed of 10-15 Patient/Family Advisors who reflect the diversity of the communities served by Good Samaritan as well as 9 Good Samaritan leadership representatives to provide logistical and administrative support, communicate needs, and support follow ups and implementations.

Eligibility for Patient/Family Advisors:

• Personal experience as a patient or family caregiver within the last 2–3 years

• Commitment to improving the care experience for all patients

• Ability to listen, collaborate, and provide constructive feedback

• Ability to attend monthly in person meetings

• Willingness to maintain confidentiality

Good Samaritan PFAC meets for one hour every month. Patient/Family Advisors also choose an organizational committee/council to join and attend those meetings (frequency differs per committee/council). Patient/Family Advisors also may join an additional subcommittee or project that could require additional meetings when needed.
