Good Samaritan To Host 23rd Annual Light Up A Life Ceremony

Good Samaritan Hospice will once again host its annual Light Up a Life Program on Monday, November 13 at 6 p.m. (EST). Light Up a Life is an annual fundraising and candle-lighting service held in remembrance of individuals who have passed away and in celebration of those living. This is a public, community-wide event hosted by Good Samaritan Hospice for every family throughout the eleven counties it serves in Indiana and Illinois.

“Light Up a Life is a special event where the Hospice staff can continue to support families and loved ones during their journey to live each day with hope and meaning,” stated Jane Russell, Director of Continuum of Care. “We enjoy being a part of this meaningful experience with the family members of those who have passed every year.”

Charitable contributions are greatly appreciated and ensure that Good Samaritan Hospice, a non-profit organization, will be able to continue providing the gift of loving care to patients and their families during the final season of life, regardless of their ability to pay. It is the generosity of those who support the Hospice mission “to celebrate the lives of those who light up our lives” that contributes to this beautiful tradition for the past 20 years.

“Light Up a Life allows the community to come together as a whole to honor and remember our loved ones. Our hope is to bring comfort, peace and healing so people can move forward in the journey of grief,” stated Sara Rinehart, Hospice Bereavement and Volunteer Coordinator.

During November, which is National Hospice Month and in early December, as a prelude to winter, hospices throughout the country sponsor a Light Up a Life Program to gather families and friends for a time of remembrance, ritual and renewal. This event is also a fundraising opportunity for the hospital so we can continue the comforting care of individuals in their final journey.

The candle-lighting service will be at Vincennes University Green Activities Center located at 120 W. Harrison Street in Vincennes, Indiana. Beverages will be available before the event and a reception will follow the ceremony. If you would like to make a contribution or have any questions, please contact Good Samaritan Hospice at 812-885-8035.
